What kind of entrance are we planning?

Choose the closest match. The questions that follow are the same ones our technician asks on a first site visit — they shape the specification, so an honest answer gets you a system that fits rather than a motor that merely moves.

Entrance type

Scoping questions — Home gate

For houses, farmhouses and residential plots. These questions help us scope a safe, correctly sized home gate system — they are not a quotation.

  1. Is your gate sliding or swinging — and roughly how wide and heavy is each leaf?

  2. How many times a day will the gate typically open and close?

  3. Who uses the gate — family cars, deliveries, domestic staff, children or pets nearby?

  4. Where is the nearest power point, and do you want battery backup for outages?

  5. Which controls suit the household — handheld remotes, a wall button, keypad or phone-based release?

We don’t quote from a dropdown. These questions scope a site visit — the specification and price follow measurement, not guesswork.

Systems we specify

Three mechanisms, one discipline: measure first

Each mechanism behaves differently under load, weather and daily use. We supply and install all three — and we tell you honestly when your existing gate needs repair before any motor is worth fitting.

Sliding gate motors

For gates that run along a track or cantilever beside the opening. We match operator rating to measured leaf weight and daily cycles, set the rack and limit arrangement correctly, and align detection so the gate stops and reverses as it should.

Homes · plots · factories · institutions

Swing-gate operator arrangement.

Swing gate motors

For hinged single or double leaves. Arm or underground operators are chosen by leaf length, weight, wind exposure and hinge condition — a swinging leaf carries different loads, and we assess pillars and stops before recommending a unit.

Homes · farmhouses · campuses

Boom barrier at a working entrance.

Boom barriers

For lanes where vehicles are checked or counted rather than gates closed. Arm length, duty rating and housing are selected for lane width and traffic pattern, with detection so the arm never drops on a vehicle — and a defined behaviour in a power cut.

Remote & release options

Controls are compatible across the gate and barrier systems we install, and are chosen around who actually opens the entrance each day.

Handheld remotes
Pocket transmitters for family members, drivers or guards — issued, coded and recorded at handover.
Mounted controls
Wall buttons, key switches and keypads at the gate or security cabin, placed for the way the entrance is staffed.
Reader & other options
RFID/tag readers, intercom or phone-based release where authorised entry needs a record — scoped during assessment.

How a specified entrance works

One drawing, every decision that matters

Gate movement is the visible part. Around it sit the decisions a proper installation is made of: measured clear opening, an operator matched to the leaf, a photocell safety beam, a detection loop, and a defined chain from remote to motor.

This is the language we plan in on your site visit — so you can see exactly what you are paying for before anything is ordered.

  1. Drive motor & manual release

The operator moves the gate; its manual-release arrangement is checked for the selected equipment.

  2. Photocell pair

A paired sensor arrangement is considered around the entrance and its movement.

  3. Gate leaf & travel

The gate, track and available travel space are assessed together.

  4. Warning beacon

A visible movement indication can form part of the selected system.

  5. Entry controls

A remote or reader connects with the receiver and control panel.

Conceptual arrangement, not to scale. The gate, controls and protective devices are assessed for the actual entrance; this drawing is not a complete installation design.

Planning, before product

What a proper specification covers

These four considerations decide whether an automated gate is dependable for years or troublesome within a season. They are why we assess before we quote.

  1. Gate assessment

Before any model is named, we measure: clear opening, leaf dimensions and actual weight, track or hinge condition, pillar strength, wind exposure and ground levels. A motor fitted to an unmeasured gate is a guess — and gates punish guesses.

  2. Duty & weight suitability

Operators are rated for leaf weight, length and cycles per day. A home gate opening a dozen times daily and a factory gate on three shifts need different duty classes. We size for your real pattern with margin, so the operator runs cool and lasts.

  3. Detection, stopping & manual release

Photocells, sensitive edges where needed, obstacle detection and correctly set stopping forces form the safety system. Manual release is positioned so an authorised person can free the gate quickly. These are model-specific decisions, made and demonstrated on site.

  4. Power-failure arrangements

Outages are a fact of life. We agree in advance what your entrance does when power drops — battery backup, a rehearsed manual-release routine, or defined fail behaviour for barriers — and we walk your people through it at handover.

Plainly stated: no relay, control board or motor on its own makes a gate safe or accessible. Safety comes from the combination — operator, detection, settings and handover — fitted and verified together on your gate.

How work proceeds

From first visit to long after handover

Planning, installation, configuration, handover and support are where the value of a properly priced system lives. The motor is the smallest part of the job.

  1. Site assessment

We visit, measure and photograph the entrance, check power and structure, and listen to how the gate is actually used. You receive a written specification — operator class, detection, controls and any gate repairs needed first.

  2. Clean installation

Operators, tracks, racks and detection are fitted square, sealed and cable-managed. We protect finishes, keep fixings tidy, and leave a site that looks like the system was designed in — not bolted on.

  3. Commissioning

Travel limits, stopping forces, obstacle detection and release devices are set and tested against the specification. We test the failure cases too — power off, beam blocked, manual release — not just the happy path.

  4. Handover

Your household or security team is walked through daily use, the manual release, and what each indicator means. Remotes are issued and recorded; settings and warranty terms are documented.

  5. Maintenance & support

Automated entrances are machines in the weather. We offer scheduled servicing — lubrication, force checks, battery tests — and remain reachable for adjustments as your use of the entrance changes.

The honest comparison

A working entry system, versus a motor in a box

You can buy a gate motor from many places. What you are paying an installer for is everything around it — the difference below is what “premium” actually buys.

A motor bought alone is not unsafe by definition — but nothing about the purchase itself assures that detection, stopping forces and power-failure behaviour suit your gate. That assurance is the service, whichever installer you ask to provide it.

Questions, answered straight

Frequently asked

The questions Hisar site owners ask us most. If yours is not here, use the enquiry form below and we will answer it directly.

Should my gate be sliding or swinging?

It depends on your plot. Sliding gates suit openings where there is run-back space beside the entrance and where wind load matters; swing gates suit wider openings with clear inward space and strong pillars. We assess ground levels, space and structure on site and recommend what the entrance genuinely supports — including repairing an existing gate if it is sound.

How do you decide which motor capacity my gate needs?

By measurement, not catalogue. We weigh or calculate the leaf load, measure the clear opening, count realistic daily cycles and factor in wind exposure and slope. The operator class is then chosen with margin above that figure. Two gates of the same size can need different operators — that is why we do not quote a model before visiting.

What happens when the power fails?

Power-failure behaviour is assessed for the selected operator and site. Options may include compatible battery backup or a manual release demonstrated at handover. Release access, training and barrier behaviour need to be agreed and tested; no universal release time is promised.

Is an automated gate safe for children, pets and pedestrians?

A correctly specified one is designed around them. Photocell beams, sensitive edges where needed, and tested stopping-and-reversing forces protect anyone in the gate’s path — but only as a set, correctly installed and commissioned. No single part, such as a relay or control board alone, makes a gate safe. For barrier lanes, we plan a separate pedestrian route rather than letting people walk the vehicle lane.

Can you automate my existing gate, or do I need a new one?

Often an existing gate can be automated. We check leaf straightness, hinge or roller condition, track alignment and pillar strength first. If the gate drags or sags, we will say so and price the repair separately — fitting a motor to a failing gate shortens the life of both.

Do you maintain systems installed by someone else?

Where the equipment is sound and parts are available, yes. We begin with an inspection and a frank report on the system’s condition, then agree a service arrangement. If an existing installation is unsafe, we will tell you plainly what must change before we maintain it.
