Home and shop automation should feel like the premises quietly doing the right thing: lights and climate following opening hours, the alarm arming when the last scene of the day runs, energy not leaking overnight. And when a person reaches for the wall switch, the system should respect it, log it, and say so — not fight them.

Zones, scenes, schedules — and honest failure states

Compatible systems, confirmed first

Lighting, access, climate, energy and alarm devices each speak their own language. Before designing anything we confirm what your existing or proposed devices actually support — subject to interface and scope review — and design the routines around that reality. No universal-compatibility promises.

Zones and one overview

The premises are modelled as zones — retail floor, storeroom, office; living, bedrooms, garage — each with its devices and states on one overview. A glance answers “is everything as it should be?” with labelled states, and anything unusual (a low battery, an offline sensor) is flagged with what to do about it.

Scenes and schedules

Scenes bundle intent into one action: Open sets lighting, climate and alarm for trading; Close reverses it and checks the door; Away trims everything to a safe minimum. Schedules run scenes at times that match your rhythm, with exceptions for holidays and late nights. Every scene change is one logged action, so “why is the light on?” always has an answer.

Remote access, protected

Remote access is per person with individual sign-in, approved by the owner, revocable in seconds, and logged. There is no shared household password and no always-open remote door — because the convenience of checking the shop from home should not come with an anonymous way in.

Local override and failure state

The wall switch always works. When someone uses it, the system shows the zone as manual override with who and when, and schedules resume at the next scene change rather than yanking control back mid-task. If connectivity drops, local schedules keep running and the cloud view shows last-known state with its timestamp. Handover means the owner can rename zones, edit scenes and revoke access without calling anyone.

Where our work stops

GA Applications designs the software layer: the zone model, scenes, schedules, the overview interface, access control and the records. Electrical, security, fire and access hardware is selected, installed and certified by qualified providers — we design alongside them and document who owns what. Alarm and fire systems remain governed by their own certified controllers; our interfaces may display their state but do not replace them. Frequently asked questions

Will it work with the devices I already have?

Maybe — compatibility is confirmed per device during scoping, not assumed. We review what your lighting, climate, access and alarm equipment actually supports and design routines around that. Where something cannot integrate cleanly, we say so before you spend anything on the build.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Local schedules and scenes keep running on the premises controller, and wall switches always work. The remote view shows last-known state with its timestamp until connection returns — it never shows stale states as if they were current.

Can staff or family override the automation?

Yes — physical controls always win in the moment. The system logs the override, shows the zone as manual with who and when, and resumes the schedule at the next scene change, so automation never fights the people in the room.

Who can access the system remotely?

Only people the owner approves, each with their own sign-in. Access is revocable at any time and every session is logged. There is no shared password and no anonymous remote path by design.

Do you install the hardware?

No. Electrical, security, fire and access installation stays with qualified installers. We design the software layer — zones, scenes, schedules, the overview, access and records — alongside your installers, with responsibilities documented from the start.
